Evaluation:

  • Written exam which will ask questions about the Harmony Training Continuum exercises, the A, B, C’s and some pieces from Understand yourself, your horse, and the langugae that connects you. If you know the content from Harmony Horsemanship 101 you should do well on the exam.
  • Verbal exam which will ask you questions about Harmony Horsemanship and ask you to explain some key exercises in your own words. You may be given scenarios of different types of horses and asked to provide some options of how you can respond. This can be completed in person, or over video chat/skype.
  • Assisting 2 lessons – this is where you observe and assist two Harmony Horsemanship sessions. You will be asked what you notice, what are options to help the student, and your evaluation of the lesson progress. This will be completed during the course in most cases.
  • Teaching exam where you will be evaluated teaching 1 ground and 1 riding lesson. The lesson needs to show that you can maintain safety, explain the Harmony Horsemanship exercise, and provide constructive feedback to the student.
  • Practical exam where you will be evaluated on your technique for ground work and riding.

The goal of the examination is to ensure that all Harmony Horsemanship instructors know the core concepts and exercises – that we are sharing a consistent message and teaching. In most cases the practical exam will be complete after observing your participation in the Become the Centre of Your Horse’s Universe Course.

You will also be able to assist and teach during the course to complete the teaching exam.

Harmony Horsemanship Instructors may teach other methods such as Centered Riding, Straightness Training, discipline specific training, etc provided their techniques does not contradict Harmony Horsemanship principles. For example it would be unacceptable to use fear tactics in combination with Harmony Horsemanship.
